School Project, Third Year

Doña Calaca Packaging Design
about.
For this third-year project, I was tasked with creating a product series for a brand of my choice. I chose to develop a hot sauce gift set consisting of five bottles, designed as a cohesive and visually engaging collection. The brand concept was inspired by the Mexican holiday “Día de los Muertos".
While I was Inspired by the specific holiday I did not want to disrespect their culture, and for this I decided to only tied the logo by the usage of the famous Calaca which is easily recognizable from Mexico, so anyone that takes a quick peak at the packaging will know where brand originated from.
A key influence to my direction as well was the traditional folk art “Papel Picado,” which inspired the illustrative style across the packaging. I aimed to create a brand that felt both approchable, cheerful and unique, which led me to use rounded typefaces and a vibrant color palette commonly associated with hot sauces. The final result is a cohesive and lively brand identity that clearly communicates its purpose as a hot sauce gift set while standing out visually.
