Peru Pocket Guide

about.

For this project, I was tasked with selecting a destination I would love to travel to and designing a foldable pocket guide with an accompanying map that people could take anywhere with them.

The challenge was to develop a guide with a unique theme, such as specific types of locations like graveyards, pubs, or provincial parks while ensuring it remained compact and easy to carry. I chose Peru as my destination and created a niche pocket guide focused on spotting alpacas. To ensure accuracy, I used a combination of Google Maps and the Peru Rail website to map out key locations where alpacas can be found.

For the layout, I aimed for a fun and friendly aesthetic. I selected a bold, rounded typeface for the main headlines, paired with a lighter typeface to create contrast and maintain readability. The colour palette is primarily composed of warm browns to reflect the natural tones associated with alpacas, complemented by a soft baby blue accent. This combination keeps the design approachable, cohesive, and easy to read.

In terms of imagery, I intentionally used two distinct shapes; ovals and squares, to create a clear visual system. Oval images represent locations tied directly to the map, while square images are used for more general visuals not linked to a specific place.
